DeepOcean deploys robotics for diverless subsea tie-in at North Sea oil & gas development
What happened
DeepOcean completed a subsea tie-in using ROVs and proprietary tooling, replacing the need for diver intervention on a North Sea tie-back. The operation included installation of a flexible production riser, flowline and an umbilical and was executed with ROV tooling then followed by commissioning from a second chartered construction vessel. Watch whether follow-on tie-backs copy the same diverless approach and shrink pre-mobilisation windows for suppliers
Why the category manager should care
Treat diverless tie-in capability as a procurement gating item; bidders without documented ROV tooling and recent execution references are higher risk
Key facts
- Subsea construction and tie-in completed on Teal West development
- Scope included production riser, flowline and umbilical
- Execution used ROV plus specialized diverless tie-in tooling
