Local company to carry out soil investigations for Malaysian CCS developments
What happened
PETRONAS CCS Solutions awarded HELMS Geomarine a multi‑year offshore geotechnical contract in Malaysia to support future CCS facilities, with an initial three‑year term and an option to extend. The scope includes drilling, downhole CPTu testing, laboratory testing, pile capacity and jack‑up assessments and will be executed from HELMS’ four‑point mooring vessel with an option to use a DP2 vessel. This is operationally real for APAC procurement because it creates sustained vessel and jack‑up demand—watch whether the DP2 option is exercised and how delivery timing lines up with nearby drilling and installation campaigns
Why the category manager should care
Treat this as a sustained APAC demand signal that can reduce vessel slack and shorten acceptable mobilisation and quote windows
