WATCH: Hybrid ocean energy construction vessel reaches Norway for completion
What happened
Island Evolution, the first of two hybrid ocean energy construction vessels ordered from VARD, arrived in Norway to enter final outfitting and completion. The vessel is VARD 3 25 design, 120 meters long, with DP2 capability, a 250‑ton heave‑compensated subsea crane and accommodation for 120 personnel — specifications that make it suitable for IMR, subsea installation and heavy‑lift work. Watch owner and charter announcements to see if and when the unit (or its sister) is offered commercially or deployed regionally
Why the category manager should care
Treat the arrival as a real supply‑side signal for specialised subsea capacity because the vessel’s build stage now allows owner decisions on commercial deployment
