Floating wind turbine that will power UK gas platform ready for tow to offshore site
What happened
A single 3 MW floating wind turbine was completed and is ready to tow to the Culzean gas platform to supply part of its electricity needs. The pilot is intended to provide about 20% of the platform’s power and was integrated by an EPC team that includes Archer, Global Maritime and others. Watch whether this model is scaled or turns into a repeatable contracting route for platform power supply and O&M
Why the category manager should care
Treat the Culzean pilot as an operational change to platform energy sourcing because it materially reduces onboard fuel demand and creates a new services procurement category for floating power O&M
Key facts
- Single 3 MW floating turbine
- Located ~2 km from the Culzean platform
- Expected to supply about 20% of platform electricity
