Ericsson wins Queensland private 5G rail network contract
What happened
Ericsson was selected to design, supply, integrate, test and commission a private 5G communications platform for Stage 1 of Queensland’s rail upgrade. The delivery includes radio access plus a geographically redundant 5G core and cloud infrastructure to support ETCS Level 2 signalling on the first operational sector. Treat this as an operational procurement: spectrum, redundancy and supplier integration responsibilities must be explicit in contracts and acceptance tests
Why the category manager should care
Treat private 5G as an integrated systems procurement, not a commodity network buy; require end‑to‑end acceptance and redundancy commitments
