Eni, Halliburton cheer Asia-Pacific's first integrated closed-loop rig automation milestone
What happened
Halliburton and Eni deployed an integrated closed-loop drilling automation system with managed pressure drilling on a deepwater exploration well off Indonesia. The system combined surface equipment, automated well placement, downhole hydraulics and MPD into a single, coordinated workflow that reportedly improved efficiency and well control. Procurement should watch for supplier offers that bundle automation, OEM spare-parts and remote support into single scopes and verify governance for remote access and version control
Why the category manager should care
Treat the deployment as an operational change: automation ties project uptime to OEM systems and remote services, so include OEM SLA and spare-parts terms in procurement planning
