Velesto scraps proposed sale of 16-year-old jack-up rig
What happened
Velesto terminated a previously signed sale agreement and retained the 2010-built Naga 3 jack-up in its fleet instead of disposing of it. The rig had been scheduled for deployment in Malaysian waters under a planned buyer arrangement, so the termination preserves local jack-up supply and keeps the unit available for Velesto’s assignments. Watch whether Velesto reassigns the unit to third-party charters or keeps it for internal deployment
Why the category manager should care
Treat this as a real supply-side preservation: one less jack-up will be on the market, so verify active solicitations that may have expected that unit to become available
