ExxonMobil passes the baton for Australian oil & gas asset to Woodside
What happened
Woodside Energy has taken over operatorship of the Gippsland Basin assets from ExxonMobil, moving operational control and approvals to Woodside. The portfolio includes multiple offshore platforms, two onshore processing facilities and around 1,200 employees/contractors, and Woodside says it will invest to deliver more gas including the Kipper 1B project targeted for delivery ahead of winter. Watch whether Woodside publishes new preferred‑supplier lists, approval gates or formal FIDs for follow‑on developments
Why the category manager should care
Treat the transfer as an operational change that requires immediate supplier and contract revalidation, not a routine PR update — operator control dictates approvals, mobilisation and commercial flows
