ADNOC Drilling puts first walking island rig into service
What happened
ADNOC Drilling received AD-300, the first AI‑enabled, fully automated walking island rig, delivered nearly three months earlier than scheduled. It combines automated walking, automated pipe handling, AI monitoring and hybrid power with a grid‑connect option and is already deployed to an ADNOC Offshore artificial island. Operationally this makes vendor SLAs, data‑ownership and cyber resilience immediate procurement items to watch during future deliveries
Why the category manager should care
Treat automation as a procurement liability and lever: uptime depends on vendor software, connectivity and power contracts as much as hardware maintenance
