Nine platform jackets offshore Thailand set for new roles as artificial reefs
What happened
PTTEP has agreed with Thai authorities to repurpose nine decommissioned platform jackets as artificial reefs and will transfer the selected units to the Fisheries Department for deployment. The redeployments are scheduled to start in the fourth quarter and are limited to jackets not exposed to liquid petroleum, which reduces some environmental risk but requires conditioning and approvals. For procurement, watch regulatory clearance steps and conditioning requirements that will change scope-of-work and survey needs before any handover
Why the category manager should care
Treat repurposing as an alternative contract outcome that requires explicit commercial and technical gates; it is not a simple cost reduction unless surveys and approvals are confirmed
